Compassion, Service and Synchronicity Beyond BeliefGale Glassner Twersky
This synchronicity story began on a typical Sunday morning when we were in the midst of renovating our bathroom. The construction worker was coming the next day to do the plumbing and we were behind schedule finding a granite countertop that had to be custom made due to the small Victorian style, older bathroom with irregular measurements. We couldn’t find anyone suitable and available to help us and now, on Sunday, no store was open.
Terribly frustrated, I decided to run an errand and at least accomplish something. So I drove to see a woman I had met through my hypnosis practice. She was on disability, very ill and could not eat normal food but she derived much of her energy from coffee. Along the way to her apartment, a converted one car garage, I stopped at her favorite coffee shop, Dunkin Donuts, to bring her a pound of coffee. The young man who was just ahead of me in line, turned his back to me and that was when my eyes almost popped out because of the “coincidence”. The back of his shirt read,” Marble and Granite Specialists”. Not being one to feel timid, I immediately remarked in a half kidding way, “You are just the person I’ve been looking for!” Well, wouldn’t you know, he was working only two blocks away on another job. With great anticipation I told him my urgent predicament and asked if by any chance he could help me out. I needed to find someone who could help me find a granite countertop that could be cut, polished and customized to fit with my bathroom that had two sinks. And by the way, the countertop had to be ready by the next day so the plumber could complete the plumbing.
Now those of you who have ever had to do renovations or construction of any kind will understand the odds of the following happening for me. The young man said that he would help me as soon as he finished his current job that day and meanwhile asked me to follow him to the granite and stone yard where he worked. In a state of disbelief, I followed him for just a few blocks where he showed me his immense selection of granite slabs. Quickly I proceeded to select five top favorites. He hammered off samples of each and said he would meet me back at my home after 5pm to measure the job. Beyond amazed with this incredible positive turn of events, I gave him my address and directions to my home that was about thirty minutes away. Sure enough, a little after 5pm he arrived (on a Sunday night, remember) and I showed him the granite I had chosen. After measuring where the granite would go and the dimensions of the sinks plus the special lip that he would make, he told me he would be back around 10 pm with the finished product that he would install that night.
Are you in shock yet? Well, true to his word, he returned with the granite, installed it to perfection and it looked absolutely gorgeous. By the way, I did get an estimate on the price before he began and it was more than 50% off all the other estimates other companies had given us. Are you still with me and my story because it doesn’t end there. He ended up doing work in our next home for us and I spread the word to my friends who also used his services. Now go ahead and estimate the odds of all of these synchronicities happening…and all initiated by my desire to be of service with compassion to someone who was in great need. C’mon, have you ever heard something with as outrageous a series of synchronicity as this?
